northwest of richmond. that rain should be arriving on the i-95 corridor between fredericksburg and downtown within the next 2, 2 1/2 hours. be ready to be dealing with the drops all day long today. heaviest of rain likely in time for your lunch hour. your 24-hour focus, rain moving in this morning. temperatures are in the upper 40s. showers likely to continue through about 9:00, 10:00 this evening, turning much colder as breezy northwest winds start to take the rain out and bring the cold in for the weekend. that part of the forecast is minutes away. for now more trouble on the roads with melissa mollet. >> trouble on the roads again. we're still single track on the redline this morning. single tracking between there. we're excelling it to get out testify way in the next couple of minutes. right now east montrose road after 270. did have a partial blockage. looks like that may have been cleared out of the way only because the roads are now green there. we'll check that for you.

over the city. and we could see more protests today as the city gears up for another trial in this case. that's received national attention. let's go to "news4's" megan mcgrath who's live in baltimore with more. megan, good morning. >> reporter: well, good morning, eun. the mood here is very calm. if you look behind me, you can see there are lots of people out and about this morning making their way to work. we're seeing delivery drivers coming and making those early morning deliveries. nothing out of the ordinary. this is central and north of pennsylvania avenue. this is where much of the looting and unrest happened back in april following the death of freddie gray. while there is disappointment, the jury -- >> megan mcgrath is live in baltimore. we'll try to get back to megan where more protests could happen today as the officers charging in the death of freddie gray goes on trial. here are four things to know

about this effort. depending on how a closed door meeting between the judge and the attorneys goes today, we could learn that today. if it happened we'll alert you. caesar goodson goes on trial. that begins january 6th. sauvgs chose to try officer porter first hoping to use him as a witness in other trials. this mistrial could make that difficult. also attorneys may want to poll the jury to try to find their thoughts about the trial. a developing story in montgomery county. one man is dead after a shooting in german town. this happened last night on sageway. a neighbor heard a victim's cries for help and called police. he said the victim told him he didn't know who had shot him. today we'll learn about the buggest budget ever. governor terry mcauliffe clearly putting stujts first.

it includes adding 2,500 teaching positions and spending $50 million for at risk students. it provides $13 million for veterans and $50 million for the airport to make it more competitive. the impact in a crash could be most severe. the trinity industry's guardrail system passed a all the federal tests earlier this year. virginia didn't think those tests were suv aenltd paid for its own. trinity system passed most of those too. but the state tests did reveal some problems when cars hit a guardrail at a specific angle. >> summers will be shorter in prince william county. we told you yesterday they were considering a prelabor day start. last night they voted unanimously to vote for classes. they start the new year on august 29th, 2016 and ends it on june 15, 2017.

developing in tennessee, a tense standoff is over and police have the suspected againman in custody. a sheriff's deputy and a woman were both shot in carter county. both are expected to recover. police receiving the call last night for a drunk man waving a gun around and threatening people in a neighborhood. he barricaded himself in a house for hours and fired more than 30 rounds at officers. remember a man who hovered outside capitol grounds with his helicopter. he wants a seat inside. he said this is not a stunt. he says he cares a lot about getting big money out of politics and wants to continue his fight for campaign finance reform. hughes still faces charges in the incident and will likely be sentenced next year. a new challenge to virginia's effort to faze out confederate license plates. they filed bill to allow the

it's 6:14 as we watch a heavy line on rain moving into the region. "storm team 4" meteorologist chuck bell is watching when the heaviest rain will track. the inland regional center says repairs to two buildings in the complex should be done by january 4th. the building where the shooting actually took place has major damage and is closed indefinitely. now, the two shooters responsible for that massacre have now been buried. tashfeen malik and syed farook were privately buried in southern california this week. they say malik did not post any suspicious messages online before she was granted a visa. she only sent e-mails and

private messages to farook before coming to the u.s. today in merry, washington, a student is expected to plead not guilty in his housemate's murder. he'll use an insanity defense. he's accused of strangling her earlier this year. a veteran of the merry police department is off the job this morning. he's accused of sex assault charges. a victim told "the free lance-star" she was attacked on the campus while summers was on duty. he resigned from the department on monday after being suspended the day before. >> alan gross says he would return totqv)s!a if given the chance. one year ago gross re-entered after spending five years in a cuban jail. he was arrested back in 2009. they accused him of trying to destabilize that communist regime. gross was freed as part of a

prisoner exchange. now rj it could soon be easier to fly to havana as we mark one year since easing relations between u.s. and cuba. the two are negotiating a deal to let commercial flights into cuba's capital. right now you have to take a chaerted flight. in the days ahead we expect changes on capitol hill. the $1.1 trillion deal averts a government shutdown. it also sparse middle-class americans from tax increases. 6:17. senator barbara mikulski has it tracked down to get the fbi to build its building in maryland. she has $300 million for it to happen in maryland. in decision 2016 an endorsement for bernie sanders. it would be his biggestiest.

in one northwest d.c. neighborhood could cause a ticket. they're going through to see what could be causing this issue. it includes trash cans, high grass and debris. jason van dyke is formally indicted in laquan mcdonald's death. there was a video that reviewed the victim was shot 16 times. prosecutors charged him with one count of murder. he now faces six counts. mcdonald was walking down the street and carrying a knife with a three-inch blade when he was shot. a service officer who was killed was a victim. baldwin had been on

administrative leave after being accused of breaking into his girl friend's house in the spring. he was not armed. police don't believe the shooting had anything to do with the allegations. they are still looking for three people in their teens or early 20s. the family of a young man murdered in maryland is pleading for answers. daryl kimg's family held a candlelight vigil. hi was murdered after a house party back in july. police have no suspects right now and no mow it is. >> if somebody knows something, police come out. say something. if it was their family member, they would want justice too. >> right now police have a $258,000 award. d.c. congresswoman eleanor norton wants the zoo to consider cutting its hours. right now they open at 6:00 a.m. people are upset they won't be

well. we'll talk about travel times in ten minutes. eun? >> thank you. new information this morning in the search for a possible killer. d.c. police are looking for a light blue older model vehicle with tape on the driver's window. they tweeted the alert at the intercession of 36th place and southern avenue last night. breaking news. we're just getting this now. a shooting spree in oklahoma. two people are dead. a man on i-40 was shooting at cars and trucks for 50 miles in three counties. this started at midnight. a man driving with his wife was shot and killed and a woman was shot and killed inside her car. police say the shooter did surrender. they arrested him on suspicion of dui. back to you. >> kristin, thank you. we turn to a developing story.

police in baltimore beginning their day. people continue to express frustration with the legal system there. officer william port 'eers trial ended in a mistrial after a jury couldn't reach a decision. he's the first officer to die. gray died after becoming critically hurt while in police custody earlier this year. responding to the mistrial announcement the family asked for calm and patience. >> i feel confident there will be another trial with a different jury. we are calm. you should be calm too. >> that doesn't always work. that's the nature of our system. i have every confidence that it will work a second time. >> now, today community leaders will hold a press conference in baltimore. they'll encourage people to express their frustrations in a productive way. members for the campaign for justice, safety, and jobs will speak at 10:00 a.m. police shot a teenager in the leg. this happened a few miles away

from where people gather to protest. this was not connected to those protests. chopper 4 was over the scene as emts arrived at the scene. baltimore police say their we responding to a robbery and a 17 would not drop his gone. an officer shot and wounded him and took him to the hospital. happening today, a man suspected of a murder in d.c. court. although police believe others were involved in this crime, wint was the only person ever charged. today metro systems are meeting on the issue of safety and security. this is a follow-up to the investigation of the deadly smoke incident at l'enfant plaza back in january. there will be an update to look at what can be done to prevent that from ever happening again. one woman died and dozens more in injured when an arcing rail

now to a developing story. a report says ash carter used a personal e-mail can't for some of his business. "the new york times" says it happened the first month during his time at the pentagon. carter told the "times" he believes using his personal e-mail was a mistake. you'll recall when hillary clinton used her personal e-mail account. hover board maker swag way and modell sporting goods are being sued over safety concerns. a man in york claims the company failed to warn that the hover boards can catch fire. there have been several case of the hover board bursting into flames while charging. >> good morning, everybody. not raining in downtown

>> reporter: aaron, everything is calm. quite normal. if you look behind. this was the cvs that was looted and set on fire. we're near north and central pennsylvania avenues. this is where the looting and much of the unrest happened following the death of freddie gray. while there's disappointment that the jury has reached a verdict, all is quiet. no incidents overnight. no heightened police presence. nothing out of the ordinary really. last night there were peaceful protests. demonstrators marched from city hall to the neighborhood. no trouble. police kept their distance. there were two arrests that happened earlier in the day that was right after the mistrial was declares and really nothing after that. no major issues overnight. now, freddie gray died after suffering a severe neck jail while in police custody. officer william porter was the first of six to be tried. there could be more protests

one man is dead after a shooting on sage way not far from gunners branch park. a neighbor heard the victim's pleas for help and called police. he didn't want his face shown on camera. >> i immediately go over to him and i said do you fwhoe dnow wh did it an where you've been shot. no, i don't know who did it. >> the victim was taken to the hospital where he died. the police has not released his name or any information about a suspect. >> your highways may soon be safer. that is a promise as vdot is making some changes. they're going to replace the heads in high-speed areas where the impact in a crash can be most severe. the industry's trinity guardrail system passed all systems earlier this year. they did not believe those tests were sufficient and paid for its own. they passed most of those as well but they'dy reveal problems when they did hit a guardrail of
